Having The Courage To Create The Life You Want

How do you define courage? One definition defines courage as “the ability to confront pain, fear, humiliation, or anything else from which a person would naturally tend to avoid.”

I chose this topic because of the feelings that I experienced after attending Oprah’s “The Life You Want Weekend”. It was two days filled with encouragement and inspiration… aimed at creating and living the life you want! I listen to the speakers share stories of their trials and tribulations and how they triumphantly created the life they now live. They asked thought-provoking questions: Why are You here? What is Your Purpose?

Are You Releasing the Full You? I thought about each speaker’s message, I began to feel this new perspective on life and success. I understood that the path we take will not be covered with a “bed of roses.” Each of the speakers had experienced pain, humiliation and disappointments…yet, each one prevailed, and we can too. There was a common thread woven through each of speaker’s message. That thread was courage. Each of them was courageous enough to confront their pain and face their fears.

They each, at some point in their lives, had to summon the:

I. Courage to be authentic

II. Courage to seek help

III. Courage to move forward

To Find Your Place you have to have the courage to be authentic:

Meaning being real and true to who you are and not trying to please others or the world. One speaker shared how she had it all the husband, the country home, and a successful career. But, instead of feeling happy and fulfilled, she was consumed with panic and confusion. She was not living an authentic life. Is your life, the life you want?

Are you courageous enough to make the decision to live an authentic life?

To Find Your Place; have the courage to seek help:

When you feel lost or hopeless, have the courage to seek help and invest in you! A life coach can help you navigate through challenges in your life or investing in self-help and motivation books. One speaker shared how meditation and being still “can uncover your creative brilliance, connect with your deepest desires, and tap into the power within; opening the door to living a life in which all things are within reach and dreams transform into reality.”

To Find Your Place: have the courage to move forward:

It takes work to move forward, I encourage you to do the work and dream big. If there is fear, let it go and if you can’t let it go, use it as fuel to propel you to the next level. If there are obstacles…persevere and learn the lessons. Oprah shared that “the greater the obstacles in her life… the greater her rewards. ”Are you willing to do whatever it takes? Are you willing to invest in you? Remember having courage is not the absence of despair…it is the capacity to move forward in spite of despair. Think about why you are here and if you are not living the life you want, I encourage you to summon the courage to be authentic, the courage to seek help and the courage to move forward!

Until next week remember

"Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage”. - Anais Nin
