Passion for Learning

What is passion? Passion is when you put more energy into something than is required in order to do it. What do you have a passion for? Is it cooking, writing, building, serving others? Whatever it is, are you making your passion a priority? I knew I had a passion for learning at a young age. I was raised in a small town and we did not have the luxury of a movie theater, or skating rinks or the amenities that were available in a big city. My excitement for learning started in the 8th grade when I read the story of Great Expectations, followed by my love for math. When I was younger, I didn’t think of learning as a passion. It was something that I enjoyed doing. It became my desire to do more; I put my heart, mind, and soul into learning. My math teacher recognized my talent and said I should become an engineer. My response was, “Engineer? What’s that!”?

Do you have that something that you enjoy more than anything? That something that you would rather do than go to a movie or hang out with friends? This something could be your passion. Bill Gates, began to show an interest in computer programming at the age of 13 at his school. He pursued his passion through college, striking out on his own at the age of 19 with his friend and business partner. He lived and breathed computers, not letting anything get between him and his passion. Today, Bill Gates is one of the most successful businessmen in the software industry.

It may take some time to discover your true passion in life. That’s ok! Our job is to keep looking forward, living with an expectancy that we will make a difference in the world that will serve others. I believe that my passion for learning was a conduit for becoming the best me. It introduced me to the science of engineering; where I was instrumental, assuring the quality of the products before shipping them to the customer. Today my passion for learning has introduced me to the science of helping others navigate through the challenges in their lives. I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know that my passion for learning is still burning strong within me and I am assured that the best is yet to come.

What can you do today and every day to discover your passion? Are you investing in you, your future?

"Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow." - Anthony J. D'Angelo

"There is no passion to be found playing small - in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living." - Nelson Mandela
